My Favorite Time of Year
Welcome, Autumn! Okay, it was a pretty awful summer, weather-wise. The heat and humidity kept me indoors for a lot of it. I finally feel like I can take a deep breath again. That said, where in the heck did the summer go?Big News!
I landed a residency in Santa Fe in October of next year. The Jen Tough Gallery hosts a number of artists every year, and my residency features the inclusion of one of my pieces in an exhibition at the gallery. My residency will last only a week (my choice), but I've never had a week to concentrate on nothing but work. I'm very excited. And I'll be in Georgia O'Keeffe country, so a trip to the museum is definitely on the itinerary.
Solo Show 2026
My solo show, which was scheduled for November of next year, has been rescheduled to August. Thoughts on a theme and proposed work have finally gelled, and I'm painting furiously. The show is tentatively called Woman, and I have three series of paintings in mind: Mystica: a cycle of archetypes, the Named Series, and Broken Masks. I've completed three canvases in the Named Series . . .
All three series feature my geometric abstraction technique, Broken Masks being the most abstract, with some minor variations. The first works in the other two series are in progress. I've never done this much figurative work, and I'm enjoying it. There are so many things to do with portraiture. I love how the geometric technique suggests features and shadows with blocks of color. Maybe I'll branch out into full-length portraits, too. It depends on how much time I have to complete everything for the show.
Current Exhibit
My paintings Martini No. 1 and Homage to Magritte No. 4 are hanging in the Composition in Color exhibit in the John G. Irvin Gallery at Central Bank (downtown) in Lexington.
