solo show

Hi, everyone.

I know I've mentioned, more than once, that I have a solo show coming up next August and that I have toyed with several ideas, theme-wise. After much consideration and faffing about, as my husband would say, I've decided the show will be called 'Masked.' It's a series of abstract portraits exploring the roles women assume to survive, belong, and be seen. I've got two of the paintings done so far . . .

'Masked: No. 4'  oil on canvas, 20x20"

'Masked: No. 8'  oil on canvas, 24x24"

This series is dramatic, for sure. I am partly inspired by my niece, who, while in high school, undertook a bake sale in her school's lobby, charging women 70 cents for every dollar charged to a man, which represented the widespread income disparity between the sexes in this country. She took quite a bit of heat for this exercise but stood her ground. She remains an outspoken feminist.

I'm working smaller than usual, and I have several paintings going at one time. I plan to have at least 20 canvases for the show, but perhaps more, depending on time constraints. It will be a busy winter!
