Moon

By way of some housekeeping, I'm curtailing my social media presence significantly, and I'll be blogging and emailing more. I will miss a lot of Facebook friends (though I won't miss the platform in the least), and I hope they'll find me on Instagram, where I'll be posting much less often, or sign up for my email list (contact — Valerie Timmons Art).

Yesterday, I pulled out of a stack what I thought was a hopelessly dismal painting, ready to throw it away, and it turned out to be a small abstract moon painting I had forgotten about.

I ordered a frame, and the painting is headed to my Louisville gallery next month.

I used to paint the moon all the time, especially when I needed a break from my geometric abstraction and wanted to "moosh" paint around. I may be entering another moon phase (pun intended). I cut loose with Adobe Firefly last night and collaborated on several moony Art Nouveau designs . . .

But here is some of my moon work of the past . . .

I've tried to paint a crescent moon, but my mooshy technique doesn't work well on small details, as you can guess. Here's one last (AI collaborative) image I'll leave with you - this is called Earthshine, which is the glow caused by sunlight reflected by the earth on the darker portion of a crescent moon.

Thanks for reading!
