The Valerie Timmons Art Newsletter (March 2026)
Just when I think spring hath sprung, winter rears its head and wraps its icy fingers around the delicate blossoms on our flowering cherry tree. No blossoms this year, and our daffodils are only a shadow of their former selves. The wildlife knows it's spring though. This Red-shouldered Hawk spent some time in the top of our walnut tree one sunny day and gave a little wave when I asked it to pose . . .
Solo Show
I've made a lot of progress on the work for Masked, which opens at KORE Gallery (Louisville) in August.

Masked: 26 oil on canvas, 12x12"
I'll probably paint some more 12x12s for the show, but I'm done with the larger ones. I say that, but in all likelihood, I'll find another Masked design that begs to be committed to a 30x30 canvas before the end of July.
Radiance
ADC Fine Art in Cincinnati has a summer show called Radiance, calling for work that evokes warmth and happiness. My entry is Sunshine of Your Love - fingers crossed it is juried in. First time I've painted teeth.

Exhibition in Lexington
Meanwhile, I transported these three horse paintings to Lexington for an exhibit called Horsepower at the John G. Irwin Gallery in the downtown Central Bank building, organized by Arts Connect Lexington. I had to dust off a couple of them, so I was happy to find out they're still relevant. They are, from left to right, Chiaroscuro (oil on canvas, 36x36"), Majestic (oil on canvas, 36x36"), and Horse Running in Sand (oil on canvas, 30x36").

The Elizabeth Series
I finished a new Elizabeth painting this month, and this one took me a while.

I raided our kitchen cabinets for bowls of various sizes, which is how I drew the circles. I'm working on three more Elizabeths for possible inclusion in ADC Fine Art's booth at the inaugural Salt Lake Art Show in May, along with this canvas . . .
